«We had a site built and it earns nothing»
A site built around the enquiry
Most small business sites are a brochure with a contact page bolted on. The ones that earn are built backwards, from the moment somebody decides to get in touch.
A website here means the pages that answer the questions people ask before they call — built so you can change the text yourself, hosted properly, and yours from the first day.
Work out what you need
How many pages, and what each one is for
Pick the closest thing to your business. Each page comes with why it exists — a page with no answer to that should not be built.

Speed, measured
This site, built while you read this
The numbers below come from the build that produced this page. They are regenerated on every deploy — we did not type them in.
$ npm run build 29 pages built in 3894 ms 1 JavaScript file in the output heaviest page — 209 KB including styles fonts — 46 KB of Cyrillic, the rest loads only if needed✓ doneCheck it yourself: open this page on a phone on mobile data and see how long until you can read something.
Speed is not a ranking trick. It is the difference between a visitor who waits and one who goes back to the results.

A site that needs a framework to show a phone number is a site that will be slow on a phone.
What the work consists of
Five stages, in this order
Text is written and agreed inside the design and build. There is no separate «content» stage where you are handed a blank document.
- 01
Research
- What people search for in your trade and area
- What competitors answer and what they miss
- Which pages have demand behind them
- What the site actually has to do
You end up withA short answer on whether a site is the right spend at all
- 02
Brief and specification
- The structure, page by page
- What each page must answer
- What we need from you and when
- What done looks like, agreed before anything is drawn
You end up withA document you can hold us to
- 03
Design
- The home page designed properly
- The rest assembled from the same blocks
- Text written into the design, not poured in after
- Reviewed on a phone before anything else
You end up withThe home page, approved before we build anything
- 04
Build
- Built as static pages, no framework in the browser
- An admin panel so you can change the text
- Forms that reach you and are tested
- Speed checked on a phone, not a desktop
You end up withA site you can edit without emailing us
- 05
Launch
- Hosting connected by us
- Domain bought in your name, with our help if you want it
- Analytics and Search Console set up
- Handover, with the passwords going to you
You end up withA live site that is yours
An estimate comes before any of this. You will know the number before the brief is written, not after.
What we need from you
Four things, and none of them is a document
Most of the work is ours. These four are the ones nobody else can do.
Half an hour to talk
About the work, the customers, and what you would rather not do more of. This is where the structure comes from.
Photos of real work
Your vans, your jobs, your team. Stock photography is the fastest way to look like everybody else.
Someone who can say yes
One person who approves the design. Two is slower; three does not finish.
Answers when we ask
Usually about prices, areas and what you actually do. A week of silence costs a week.
If a document exists — a price list, an old brief, anything — send it. If not, we get there by asking.
What it is built with
Three options, and we will tell you which you need
Not a technology pitch. The choice follows how often the site changes and who changes it.
Astro + Keystatic
Static site
Pages built once and served as files. Nothing runs in the browser, so nothing is slow on a phone.
- Fast on a phone by construction
- Nothing to hack, nothing to update weekly
- Hosting costs almost nothing
- Text editable without touching code
A few dozen pages, changed occasionally
Next.js + Payload
Site with a CMS
The same speed, plus a proper editor for content that changes often — a blog, a catalogue, a team page.
- Everything above, plus a real editor
- Hundreds of entries without slowing down
- Roles, so more than one person can edit
- Ready for a shop later
Hundreds of entries, changed weekly
when you already have it
WordPress
The one everyone knows. We build on it when you already have it, or when your team knows nothing else.
- Familiar to anyone you hire next
- Plugins for almost anything
- Easy to hand to another agency
- Editors your team already knows
You already run it, or your team knows nothing else
Whatever we build on
- An admin panel for the text
- Domain and hosting in your name
- Speed checked on a phone
- Forms tested before launch
- Analytics and Search Console set up
If you already have something that works, we will say so rather than sell you a rebuild.
Squarespace, Wix and the rest
Six reasons we don't build on a page builder
They are fine for a first site. These six things catch up with you later, and they are not opinions.
You cannot leave with it
The site lives inside their system. Moving to anyone else means building it again from scratch.
Speed you cannot fix
The page ships their code whether you use it or not. On a phone, on mobile data, that shows.
The template decides the structure
You end up with the pages the template has, not the pages your customers search for.
It gets more expensive quietly
The cheap plan needs an upgrade for the thing you now need, and then another.
Small changes need their support
Anything the editor does not allow needs a ticket, and the answer is often «not possible».
Nobody can audit it properly
When it stops bringing enquiries, the tools that would tell you why are the ones you cannot install.
If you already have one and it works, we will say so rather than sell you a rebuild.
After launch
What happens once it is live
It is yours, entirely
Domain, hosting and code in your name. Nothing to buy back, nothing to migrate if you move on.
You can edit the text
Every site we build comes with an admin panel. Not because you will use it weekly, but because emailing someone to fix a typo is how sites go stale.
Care, if you want it
Updates, backups, monitoring and small changes, monthly. Optional, and separate.
It is not finished
A site left alone for two years has quietly broken. Pages get added as the business changes — that is normal, not a failure of the first build.
Questions
What people ask before commissioning one
Not covered here? Email us and we'll answer in plain words.
Do I actually need a site?
Not always. For a plumber, a barber or a takeaway, a strong profile in Maps often does more and costs less. A site starts to matter when the decision is slow or expensive — a clinic, a builder, a firm people research before they call. We will tell you which you are.
Who owns it?
You do. The domain is registered in your name, the hosting is in your name, and the code is yours. If you leave, nothing needs buying back.
Can I change the text myself?
Yes. Every site we build comes with an admin panel for exactly that.
How long does it take?
It depends on the number of pages and how quickly answers come back. The brief states the timescale before anything starts.
Will it be fast?
The pages are built as files, with no framework running in the browser. The numbers from this site's own build are further up this page, regenerated on every deploy.
Other services
A site does not find itself
Built and live is one thing. Being found, and being chosen once you are found, are two others.
- «The listing is there, but it brings nothing»Google Business ProfileSet-up, everyday upkeep, suspensions and ownership. The profile most local customers see before they see anything else.
- «I don't know where my customers come from»Local SEOBeing visible across the area you actually work in, not only on the street you are registered at.
- «We ran ads. Nothing came of it»Google AdsCampaigns built around the jobs you want, with the money going where enquiries come from.
- «It looks good inside, and nobody can tell»Virtual tours360° tours published to Google and embedded on your site. This one needs someone with a camera in the room — see the page.
- «The site exists, but nobody finds it»Website SEOPages that answer the searches your customers actually type, and the technical work that lets Google read them.
